Ms. Nason:
2nd
and 3rd Grade Literacy Specialist at
Fallon
Park Elementary School

My journey as a Literacy Specialist began as
I watched my own children become voracious readers and as I guided the
instruction of so many children who have passed through my classroom
door.
I was a classroom teacher for 25 years, teaching kindergarten
through 5th grade in the Roanoke City School system.
I obtained my MS in Literacy Education in December
2018 from Radford University. I became the Literacy Specialist at Fallon Park
in Fall 2019 and I am happy to be able to support students and staff across
grades K through 5 with special attention to 2nd and 3rd
grade. FPES has talented students, caring
leadership, creative teachers, and a rigorous curriculum. I am proud to
be here.
I also serve as the copresident elect of Roanoke Valley Reading Council, supporting
and developing literacy initiatives across the valley. Reading
is my passion and I am happy to be sharing this passion even more in these
roles. As
a literacy specialist, I have the opportunity to work with students across
grade levels and to work closely with colleagues to develop a love of learning and
literacy in my students. I am fortunate enough to work with a professional
staff who are always eager to learn the newest literacy trends to add to their
repertoire of teaching strategies. I believe that the key to learning is
to meet students where they are and to help them find what makes them curious and
motivated enough to learn. My own children have taught me to appreciate
individuality, to not assume, and to be flexible. We're in this journey
together! Please know that our doors are always open.
On a personal note, I am the mother of 4
wonderful humans and 2 fur babies; I love my dogs!! My hobbies include Dallas
Cowboys’ football, running, gardening, bird watching, and reading (of course!).
When I am not teaching you can often find me spending time with my family including
the newest addition, my grandson Andy!
